Crowther, Samuel, 1806?-1891Summary: Prepared by Samuel Crowther, this is the second edition (first was 1857) of the first work in the Igbo language, a member of the Niger-Congo family. lt includes the basic orthography, phonemes, dipthongs, etc., of the language, reading passages, numerals (ordinal and cardinal), translations from the scriptures (Luke and Psalms), the Ten Commandments, and the Lord's Prayer. Crowther was the first African Anglican bishop in Nigeria.
